The BDÜ, the largest association representing professional linguists in the German-speaking countries, is holding an international conference in Berlin from 11 to 13 September 2009. The conference, entitled ‘Interpreting the Future – Challenges for Interpreters and Translators Arising from Globalisation’, will take place in the Henry Ford Building of the Freie Universität Berlin and will focus on seven main topics, including: the effects of globalisation on the translation and interpreting markets; new job profiles, new perspectives; emerging practical challenges for translators and interpreters; new technologies; education and new demands on professional associations.
The conference programme includes some impressive speakers and some highly interesting presentations. Of particular interest to marketing translators are of course the presentations on the translation of marketing texts, but with topics such as changing client demands, finding and keeping direct clients and the challenges faced by the language services of international organisations also on the agenda, there seems to be something for everyone.
For more details, please visit the conference website – available in German and in English. Early bird discounts are available until 31 May 2009.
